In case you have an email account with your very own personal domain instead of a third-party one, you’ll be able to use an email app such as Apple Mail, Outlook or Thunderbird to access and administer your email accounts. The advantage of using such applications is that they also offer other features, such as address books and calendars. There are two different email protocols that you can select from when you set up the app of your preference to access your email account – POP3 and IMAP. With the first protocol, all email messages that are received will be downloaded to your device – mobile or desktop, unless you decide to store a copy on the email server. With the second protocol, the messages will be displayed locally at your end, but they will stay on the server at all times, so you can set up the account on multiple devices and access the messages from any place. You will also be able to check old email messages if there’s a problem with your Internet connection, which is a huge advantage over web-based email services.
